6 simple steps to reduce email threats Antivirus and Patch management – Corporate should install necessary patches and update virus definitions regularly to ensure protection against virus attack and spam. Email attachments – email attachments should be carefully opened in order to prevent a virus or worm breakout. As a best practise, the preview pane on the mail client should be disabled. Mail relay – Corporate should block mail relay option on the mail server to minimize the risk of email forgoing by malicious attackers. Encryption and Digital signature – As a good corporate email practise; all the outgoing emails should be digitally signed or should be encrypted. This makes it difficult for the attacker to sniff the email content and makes it difficult to forge the email without stirring suspicion. Anti-Spam – anti-Spam measures should be implemented at the router level to filter on the blacklisted domains, this will save time and network resources. Online registrations – As a good practise the
use of corporate email ids for online registration of contests, sweepstakes,
discussion groups. This can reduce unsolicited Spam emails and save network
resources. |
